Worst Finales From Supernatural Shows

The supernatural young adult dramas took over Hollywood in the early 2000s. From vampires, werewolves, witches, and other supernatural creatures. The supernatural ruled network television and created some of the most passionate fandoms. However, their finales left fans throwing their remotes at the television. Here are the worst series finales of supernatural dramas.

****Major Spoilers. Read at you Discretion****

The Vampire Diaries

Following the heels of Twilight, the CW launched the vampire drama series, The Vampire Diaries in 2009. The show was packed with supernatural drama, love triangles and enough brooding to last a lifetime. The show followed heroine, Elena Gilbert an orphaned teenager looking to find hope in a small town filled with supernatural occurrences and mysterious deaths. Leading her to fall for the Salvatore brothers Stefan and Damon in what was the most dragged out love triangle in history.

Ultimately in the series finale, Elena lives out her human life with Damon Salvatore until her death. Elena is reunited with parents and Aunt Jenna in the afterlife. Damon is reunited with his brother Stefan. Confirming in the end that the unredeemable Damon Salvatore was able to find redemption in the afterlife.

However, those were the only highlights of the entire series finale. Show producers and writers decided to kill off various characters in the finale Katherine Petrova, Tyler Lockwood, and Vicki Donovan to name a few. But the one death that caused a public outcry amongst fans was that of Stefan Salvatore. Stefan sacrificed himself to rid Mystic Falls of Katerine and allow his brother a chance at a happy life with Elena. Leaving Caroline Forbes a widow only after 24 hours of marriage behind (Mind you Stefan never told his new wife his choice to be a martyr).

Another character that deserved better was Bonnie Bennet. The witch with a huge heart and loyalty to her friends. She ultimately saved Mystic Falls in the series and is left with nothing. She does not get a flash forward sequence where she is reunited with her love, Enzo, her Grandmother, and ancestors. Instead, Bonnie is left out of the final scenes completely. Leaving fans to wonder what happened to Bonnie.

The Originals

The spin-off series falling the “original” vampires from The Vampire Diaries was a hit amongst fans. The show revolved around the Mikaelson clan and their desire take back their reign of New Orleans. However, there were met by various enemies looking to cause a rift in the Mikaelson family. Forcing the siblings to stake each other in the back from time to time. However, their bond of “Always and Forever” brought them back together when they found their ultimate match in the villain called The Hollow.

In the series finale, Klaus has made up his mind to sacrifice his life to save his daughter’s (Hope). Hope after the death of her mother (Hayley) triggers her curse and is dying. Klaus has Caroline’s daughters siphon the curse from Hope and place the darkness within him. Klaus than decides to sacrifice his life (sound familiar?) for his daughter after acquiring a white oak stake. In the end, Elijah makes the choice to die alongside his brother. Snapping the white oak stake into two. The brothers stake one another and pull an “Infinity War” like ending as their ashes blow into the night sky.

Fans of the ship Klaroline were also let down after years of anticipation and what could have been the worst ship baiting a show has ever pulled. Caroline once again is left alone after her love has sacrificed himself. Elijah despite being told that Hayley is waiting for him in the afterlife for that dance. Will never get it or at least fans will only have fanfiction to help cope with a clear missed opportunity in the series finale.

Overall the finale felt like a carbon copy of The Vampire Diaries finale, sloppy and uncreative in my opinion. Basically, force-feeding fans to catch the spin-off of a spin-off series Legacies. However, judging by the fan response to the series finale. Legacies may not make it pass pilot before cancellation as fans are already tuning out of the ill-fated series.

Teen Wolf

Moving away from the vampire realm, MTV’s reboot Teen Wolf proved to be a hit with their fresh take on the cult classic film. Newly graduated member’s of Scott McCall’s pack take on the threat of not one but two villains in the finale. Inevitable coming out on top but still on the quest to track down the escaped crazed hunter, Monroe, and the remaining nemetons.

In a flash forward, Scott comes across a young kid that is on the run from Monroe and her band of hunters. Scott takes in the young kid and meets up with his pack back in what is assumed to be Beacon Hills. Together they form one of the most dramatic time filling slow-mo group walks into camera. While the sentiment behind the character of the kid being an extended member that represents the fans is touching. The finale left more plot holes and open-ended questions that will go unanswered. Even the remaining characters from the first season had little to no screen time and if they did it was more of writers trying to cram in as much ship bait to appease everyone rather than creating a satisfying ending.

Even fans have concluded that the more appropriate and satisfying ending of the series was the mid-season finale of season 6. Where Scott and Stiles jump into the Jeep and overhear call about a dead body over the police radio. Alluding back to the pilot episode of the series where it all began, over a dead body. The two buddies than ride off for one last ride together and the scene fades out with an aerial view of the Jeep driving off into the sunset. Sounds like a more fitting ending than the silent slow-mo walk and hot mess express finale that should have never been.
