The Walking Dead: Highlight and Thoughts from 7×15 “Something They Need”

War is on the horizon and Negan alludes to a visit to Alexandria. His visit may just spark the showdown fans have been waiting for all season. Here are my thoughts and highlights from episode 15, “Something They Need.”

You Promised

Rick’s group pays a visit to Oceanside after Tara tells Rick about where she was during that period of time she was away. Tara confides in Rick about Oceanside, but more so about the amount of weapons they possess. To refresh your memory after the sluggish first half, the Oceansiders are a peaceful group run by women.

However, their peace is disrupted by Rick’s group as they invade Oceanside to acquire their guns. Tara pleads to make a case to the Oceansiders that they are going to fight The Saviors. She comes off as optimistic despite the tragic history of Oceanside’s resistance to The Saviors.

Rick’s group pleads with Oceanside to not resist and allow them to pull the heist peacefully. In the end The Oceansiders allow the group to take their guns after they take down a hoard of walkers together. Tara promises to bring them back after they beat The Saviors. Despite the inner conflict of our hero group, they had to do what was necessary to defeat Negan and The Saviors. Even if it meant stealing guns from Oceanside and leaving the group defenseless.

Sasha is being held captive and endures in another cringe worthy ploy in Negan’s storyline. The Saviors leader discovers that Dave (a Savior) attempts to rape Sasha. Fans of the graphic novels know that Negan does not hurt women physically. He shares his thoughts about Dave’s attempt and kills him in front of Sasha. Negan leaves the blade he killed Dave with in the cell with Sasha.

He offers Sasha the choice: kill herself, try to kill him or kill Dave after he turns and join The Saviors. He knows ultimately what Sasha will choose and seems unsurprised when he finds her in the cell with dead walker Dave. Negan welcomes her to The Saviors and drops a hint that he is planning to pay Alexandria a visit. He discloses to Sasha that he will use her as a device against the Alexandrians. Sasha has her own moral dilemma as she asks Eugene to help her die. However, this could all be a ruse as Sasha smirks secretly about Eugene agreeing to help her end her life. Eugene brings Sasha a lethal toxic pill that he created that should kill her in 20-30 minutes.

Personal Thoughts

  • Sasha doesn’t look to be using the toxic pill on herself anytime soon. She could be saving it for Negan or perhaps herself as The Saviors approach Alexandria.
  • Gregory plans to leave Hilltop. Here’s hoping he runs away for good or is finally axed off the show seeing that he thought to kill Maggie after her popularity threatened his leadership. Also there is the fact that he is completely useless and can’t even kill a walker on his own. I am still confused why the writers have kept Gregory alive this long and hope his storyline will be ending soon.
  • Dwight wants to fight alongside Rick’s group. Looks like Dwight has a lot of trust to gain, especially with Daryl! Not going to spoil too much from the graphic novels. But Dwight may be a key player in the war against The Saviors if the group can trust him.
