Shadowhunters ‘Lost Souls’ Review and Thoughts

Hightlights of the Episode

Fan-favorite ship Malec after an eight-month hiatus is still their adorable domestic couple-ly self. Was nice to see despite Magnus losing his powers, the two are able to navigate their relationship and finally have learned to lean on another.

Also are the writers and producers hinting at these becoming parents in the future as the show wraps up? I sure hope so! Because the bedtime reading and adieus were adorable between Magnus, Alec, and Maddie.

One of the highlights this episode was Jace was dealing with PTSD after being The Owl. Recalling the pain he inflicted on those he cared about. Along with the unexpected loss of Clary. Shows dealing with the supernatural usually have a terrible tendency to brush past mental health trauma. However, Shadowhunters was one of the few shows to show grief and trauma in a believable way.

Key Storylines: The final episodes will revolve around Jonathan and Clary’s sibling relationship. Hinted in this episode we learn that Jonathan is searching for light. Could be a hoax, but Jonathan appears to be desperate in showing her his true colors. Keeping Clary hidden away in a time-traveling apartment that ultimately saved their lives. However, their getaway won’t last long as the group of shadowhunters and downworlders go on the rescue mission for Clary thanks to Luke’s lead.

Overall Thoughts

With the unexplained time jump, the miraculous/unexplained healing of Alec and the anticlimactic grieving over the “loss” of Clary. The premiere lacked continuity. But can you blame the showrunners? The show is being abruptly canceled after this latter half of Season 3.

Viewers can definately sense the rush to tell storyline and wrap up others as there are only nine episode left!
