‘Shadowhunters’ 3×17: Review and Thoughts “Heavenly Fire”

Simon and Izzy make the dream team by devising a plan to infiltrate the Operation Heavenly Fire facility and save Clary. Becoming an undercover prisoner of The Clave under Isabelle’s direction Simon quickly discovers that the prisoners that leave the cells never return. Things begin to look bleak for a particular vampire, Rafael when he next to leave the doomed cell.

However, not all is lost for Rafael when he is found by Simon in a room filled with others that were missing. Rafael divulges to Simon that he was injected with something that caused the sensation of burning (Heavenly Fire). The serum causes downworlders to lose their abilities and turns them mundane.

But there are bigger issues at hand when Isabelle discovers that Aldertree is plaining to use Heavenly Fire as a weapon of mass destruction by adding the extracted serum in the water supply, turning all downworlders mundane.

Fortunately, shadowhunters and downworlders become allies to take on Aldertree. Simon and crew blow up the lab just in the nick of time. While Isabelle takes down Aldtree and has him imprisoned for his crimes.

The team does not come up empty handed, Helen steals enough serum (derived from Heavenly Fire fragments) to hopefully Jonathan and Clary’s connection.

Overall Thoughts

The episode was enjoyable, hitting on the physical and emotional aspects of the characters that made the overall episode intriguing. From fighting to save the downworlders, sad flashbacks of Jonathan’s life and a doomed proposal. I was genuinely invested in each storyline.

But let’s face it fans knew that the Malec proposal was doomed from the start. Sorry, Alec but your leading heart cleared your judgment. Proposing to your boyfriend after they lost their powers “twice” and being so blinded by love to see that they have spiraled into depression. Will earn a hard pass, and in this instance a breakdown before the ring could even be presented. But I have a hunch Magnus and Alec will get that proposal redue by the close of the show.
