‘Shadowhunters’ 3×14 “A Kiss From a Rose”: Reviews and Thoughts

This episode focused on the mundane feeling of love and human connection. Something that cannot be manufactured or forced, sorry Jonathan.

A twist on the “trapped in an elevator” trope. Jordan and Maia find themselves barricaded in the freezer of Jade Wolf. Leaving time for the two to rehash old wounds. Luckily for Maia and Jordan, their freezer moment ends when Simon and Luke come to the rescue.

Clace (Jace and Clary) have their first date! Jace recalled happier times Clary had shared with her mother, Jocelyn ice-skating. Wanting to recreate those memories while making memories of their own Jace and Clary glide their way into unchartered territory, insecurities. While ice-skating may feel mundane to Jace, he admits that being somewhat helpless makes him insecure around Clary. There was something genuine and sweet about their ice-skating date. Sadly they were interrupted by brother dearest.

Magnus seeks out the help to restore his magic from his nemesis, Lorenzo. However, restoring Magnus’s magic comes at a cost. Causing Alec to question Magnus and his newly acquired magic. We later learn that the cost was for Magnus’s apartment. Something he is quick to easily give up. Explaining to Alec that he needs magic to feel complete. However, there is something amiss with Magnus’s new magic abilities. Sure the bloody nose is a sign, but how the use of his new magic is more of a spectacle. Perhaps his body is rejecting Lorenzo’s magic because the magic is not his own?

Overall Thoughts

I enjoyed the connections this episode between Jordan, Maia, Clary, and Jace this episode. Their scenes felt real and authentic, not like the doppelganger ruse played by Jonathan to get Clary back. Is anyone else slightly creeped out by Jonathan’s sick fixation on his sister? Also, we learn that the blade Jonathan is looking for is called The Morning Star Sword and has the ability to raise an army from hell. Overall the episode was enjoyable and got my Clace needs met again!
