Netflix Original Castlevania Season 2 Trailer Review

Castlevania season 1 was an action packed, horror anime that really captured my attention.  Coming October 26, Castlevania season 2 is back on Netflix.  Here are my thoughts on the new trailer!

The Netflix Original anime Castlevania far surpassed my expectations for season 1.  Though it only had 4 episodes, it was a compelling and action packed first season which left me hungry for more. Now the season 2 trailer is here.  Check it out below:

The trio of unlikely heroes are back with a fury in season 2: Alucard (Dracula’s son), Trevor Belmont (monster hunter), and Sypha Belnades (speaker Magician).  I adored Trevor Belmont’s sarcastic yet honorable character and loved Sypha’s strong female presence in the first season.  Though Alucard had very little screen time in season 1, he had a cool charisma to him that intrigued me.

Season 2 looks to not only up the brutality as seen in season 1, but the stakes as well.  No longer is Wallachia the only target, but the entire world.  That makes the quest of this trio even more dire and interesting to watch.  This trailer showed a lot of screen time of the trio working together, and I am very curious to see how their dynamic will play out as their differing backgrounds will lead to some inner turmoil.

The trailer also showed more of Dracula and his dark role in this as we get to see his generals and his plan to destroy humanity. How will Dracula fair when he has to face his son?  What inner turmoil will he have over killing humanity when his beloved wife was human and his son is half human?  I feel like this could lend to some really interesting character development for Dracula and for his son Alucard.

I also really want to see the Trevor Belmont and Alucard dynamic as I can see there being a lot friction between them due to their characters being almost polar opposites.  And in the trailer, it suggests that it takes a monster to kill a monster, but interestingly enough, we are then shown scenes for Alucard, Trevor, and Sypha fighting.  Will they all have to become monsters to defeat this darkness?  It will be interesting to see them walk this fine line between becoming a monster and their humanity.

As for Sypha, I  have a feeling she is going to be the moral compass for Alucard and Trevor as well as a buffer between them.  I think she is going to keep them stable.  In season 1, I thought she was a very strong, intelligent female character which I really appreciated seeing.  So far it looks like she will continue to be a strong character, and boy will they need it.  It looks like things are really going to heat up in the action department this coming season.

I am extremely excited for the next season. Castlevania Season 2 will air October 26 on Netflix!
