‘Game of Thrones’ The Crypts of Winterfell Teaser Breakdown

‘Game of Thrones’ The Crypts of Winterfell Teaser Breakdown

We know there would be throwbacks to previous moments of ‘Game of Thrones.’ But seeing the tropical feather left by Robert Baratheon on Lyanna’s tomb from the pilot episode of the series is one of the many easter eggs. The feather floats away from Lyanna’s fingers as Jon Snow walks past, whispering the words “–You have to protect him.”

There is possibly some foreshadowing as Jon appears to hear his mother’s whispers. His true heritage being reveled will not only effect him but will effect Sansa and Arya as well.

We get Catelyn Stark’s voiceover from season 3, episode 2 “Dark Wings, Dark Words.” Catelyn regretting how she felt and treated Jon Snow throughout her life. By not accepting Jon and even wishing death upon him. Catelyn believes her actions for not loving Jon as she should, cursed her family.

We see similarities with Sansa and Jon’s interactions as they may not always see eye to eye on political issues. Sansa offered an apology to Jon back in season 6, episode 4 for being terrible to him in her youth. “–I was awful just admit it. Can you forgive me?” Sansa has grown up from her childish ways and understands her words were like daggers at times to her brother. Perhaps she will show the acceptance of Jon and his heritage in a way Catelyn wished she had.

Next, we hear Ned Stark’s voice, “You might not have my name, but you are a Stark you have my blood.” This was taken from Ned’s speech to Jon before he rode off to The Wall in season 1, episode 2 “The Kingsroad.” That Jon is by blood still a Stark and was always a Stark. This scene could also be the stance of the Starks (Jon, Sansa, and Arya) to stand as a pack to defeat Winter together.

We see next the trio looking ahead and the camera pans out to reveal Jon, Sansa, and Arya’s crypt statues. Hinting to fans or a ploy by the creators that no one is safe from the threat of Winter and the big battle in Winterfell against the Night King and his army. The fight for the throne will begin April 14, 2019.
