Cloak and Dagger: Theories and Thoughts

The Summer’s most anticipated show is finally here and fans are weighing in on the series. But I have my own thoughts and theories about this comic book adaptation.

I finally caught up on the most recent episode of Cloak & Dagger and have noticed the strong sense of parallelism. From the abilities of our meta-humans Tyrone Johnson (Cloak) and Tandy Bowen(Dagger) to the intertwining storylines of characters that share similar themes, the writers and producers cleverly place seemingly harmless nuisances in scenes that later have damaging consequences. A perfect example is a scene in which Tyrone’s father talks about his marriage and how they fell on difficult times. He claims that his mother was the first to rise and inspire him to join her through adversity. This story could be foretelling of a similar incident regarding Tyrone and Tandy. They are the divine pairing and their abilities thrive off each other. I could see these two facing adversity in the future and leaning on each other to “rise” in order to save New Orleans.

There is heavy foreshadowing from the voodoo tales told by Evita Fusilier (Noëlle Renée Bercy) about New Orleans. The Brothers Wilson tale tells a story about a duel in which a brother sacrifices himself which caused an abrupt end to a hurricane that began prior to the duel. Then there is the Saint Teresa’s church that has been destroyed and rebuilt through periods of time which happens to be Tandy’s refuge and second home. Lastly, New Orleans is described as the “dueling capital” of the world. Tyrone and Tandy will inevitability face their own duels in the future perhaps in the form of Roxxon.
