Bleach Live Action Teaser Trailer 2 Review

The live action Bleach adaptation will be upon us in a few months on July 20th 2018.  A new teaser trailer just recently dropped.  Here are my thoughts as I break down the new teaser trailer.

Bleach was one of the first animes that I binged watched.  I loved the action and the story of Bleach and adored the cool character designs.  The anime definitely had its slow, filler moments, but, in general, I really enjoyed this supernatural, action packed anime.  And I am genuinely interested and intrigued with this adaptation as well as apprehensive.  Anime fans have had more than their fair share of disappointments in regards to live action adaptations.

Before I go any further in my thoughts, here are the two trailers back to back:

There is not much more shown in this new trailer, but there are a few things that I saw which gave me some faith that this will stay true to the story.  The first thing that you see in this new trailer is a little girl next to a water way.  Now fans of the anime know that this is probably in reference to the Kingfisher hollow, who used a little girl as a lure to attack people.  This means that we may be getting the Kingfisher arc in this movie.

Fans also got their first glance at Rukia.  Now I personally liked the actress whom they picked for Rukia.  She has the build and look to her even if her hair does not look like Rukia’s hair from the anime.  Several fans didn’t like that her hair was not exactly like the  anime which I actually think is a really strange thing to complain about.  I think, as well as other fans, that if they had stuck to Rukia’s hair style from the anime, which was popular in the early 2000’s, it would look outdated.  Some fans also brought up a point that it may even look like cosplay.  I think that its more important that she embodies the character of Rukia as accurately as possible rather than nitpicking about the style of her hair.

I also like how the clips we got looked like it could have come from the opening episode of the anime with the  attack of the hollow and how Ichigo gained the power of a Shinigami.

Now Bleach is one of the few longer animes that I feel could be pulled off in a live action movie series, especially if they stick to the main story line that centers around Aizen.  I can see clear cut off points for each movie.  Movie 1 could end when Rukia is taken back to the soul society by Byakuya and Renji, movie 2 could end with Aizen’s defection from the Soul Society, movie 3 could have the rescue of Orihime and the fight with Ulquiorra Cifer, and movie 4 could have the capture and defeat of Aizen.  These are just some of my ideas of how it could be done, and done to cover all the arcs that fans love.  I think that this series has the potential of being done decently as a movie series versus something like Naruto or One Piece that really could only be covered by a live action television show if done at all.

I know that some fans would prefer another season of the anime versus a live action movie, but if this movie is done right and received well, fans may get another movie and an anime season.  We shall have to see come July 20th!
