Attack on Titan Season 2 trailer and analysis

The long wait for season 2 of Attack on Titan is almost over, and I am so excited.  Check out the trailer below:

Attack on Titan swept the world by storm in 2013 with the beautifully drawn and epically dramatic anime which was an adpatation of the manga series under the same name written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama.  It has reached bestseller status in both Japan and the United States and has dominated the anime world.  Fans around the world have been waiting in fervent anticipation for the new season to come out.  Well the wait is nearly over as season 2 is set to be released in April 2017.

Now some fans (like me) could not wait for the second season to know what will happen, and I read ahead in the manga from where it left off in the anime series.  Epic drama is an understatement of what is in store for season 2.  The trailer gave a hint to what was coming, and made it clear that things were just getting started up on the war front.  I am super excited to see some secrets revealed and storylines unfold.

SPOILERS AHEAD!  IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE MANGA STOP RIGHT HERE.

As stated above this next part will be a discussion on what has happened in the manga series after what happened in season 1 of the anime.  If you do not want to be spoiled in any way, please stop reading now!

One of the biggest things I remember about this part in the manga is the reveal of who the colossal and more importantly (for me at least) the armored titan were.  When I found out that Reiner Braun was the armored titan, my heart broke a little.  I loved Reiner and to some extent I don’t really want to believe that he is a villain.  I think that his inner struggle will play out well in the anime, and the fight between Eren and Reiner will still be very epic as was seen in the trailer.

We also see the beast titan in the trailer, which I am interested and sad to see because a certain character dies because of the beast titan.  And more familiar people will die in this next season, people we have grown to love, but I won’t say who.  Tons of information about the walls and the titans will be revealed concerning the Reiss family (Krista’s family).

I’m curious to see how far they will get in season 2.  I want to see some military police and scout regiment in fighting happening and the new role of “interrogator” that Levi takes on.  Levi proves more than ever in this part of the series how vital and badass he really is as does Erwin and the rest of the scout regiment.  I also want to see them get to Eren’s basement, and reveal more secrets, but I don’t think it will get that far.

And I hope to see more of Reiner, Bertolt and Annie’s past and the things they did like the death of Marco Bott.  Marco’s death always stuck with me because he was a nice guy that died suddenly and there was no real reason given as to why.  I’ve always wondered what happened and that his death seemed too suspicious.  I hope we get to see that revealed in the second season.

I also want to see Armin come into his own as a very capable and savvy strategist and warrior as well as how Eren’s powers get to change.  There is so much that happens after what is seen in season 1 of the anime that I’m sure we won’t be seeing all of it in season 2, but season 2 is looking to be even more action packed and heartbreaking than season 1 and that is my hope.

I’m also super excited to hear the new season’s soundtrack.  I love Hiroyuki Sawano’s score for Attack on Titan.  To this day, it is still one of my favorite soundtracks of all time.  I get immersed in the various themes and sounds intermixed in.  It is sweeping, epic, bombastic and beautiful at the same time, so I am very excited to see what it will be like in season 2.

Overall, I hope they do as good or better of a job in season 2 of Attack on Titan which will be hard since the first season was so well done.  But I think the wait will be well worth it.
