Arrow Episode 4×05: No Soul Left

Special appearance of Constantine, the Lances come together, and Team Arrow becomes a family again.

The writers of Arrow enjoy creating crossovers, and there was no exception to the introduction of John Constantine to Star City. As some are aware, the show Constantine that aired on NBC was cancelled. Fans of the series and Arrow, found themselves pleasantly pleased with Constantine crossing paths with Oliver Queen on Lian Yu.

Constantine was true to his character from the NBC series, full of sarcasm and wit when it came to his abilities. I particularly loved his line, “What you never scene magic before?” To Oliver while searching for a crox on the Lian Yu. While on their venture, Oliver saves Constantine’s life from what look like a booby trap from Indian Jones. Constantine, feeling gratitude for valiant gesture, offered to do Oliver a favor.

Oliver cashes in on Constantine’s offer, after Laurel and him have an argument about Sara. There is history between the Lance and Queen family. Some of the history scandalous enough to force Oliver’s hand in his campaign for Mayor image. We all remember the love triangle between Sara, Laurel and Oliver, that led to the boating accident [in which Sara was presumed dead].

Constantine, honoring his vow, goes to Star City to help bring Sara’s soul to her body. It is a task that required Constantine to cast a spell, taking Laurel, Oliver and himself to the otherside. Sara’s soul is being held captive in the Lazarus Pit in an alternative world-like Nanda Parbat. There they fight white eyes, demon like league of assassins. Laurel and Oliver rescue Sara from the pit and Constantine brings them back to the present world. Sara is returned to her body [as we assume being that Legends of Tomorrow will be airing January 2016, with Black Canary as a character]

We are glad that Thea Queen is safe from harm, as she was beaten up pretty much during the entire episode by possessed Sara. Thea continues to worry about her bloodlust, as her desire to kill will never go away due to Ra’s Al Ghul being dead.

Another character to keep an eye on is John Diggle: he learned about Andy Diggle’s role with H.I.V.E and the orders to kill his brother. all thanks to Officer Lance’s help.  Officer Lance provided Andy’s file to Diggle after the inquiry to Damien Darhk. Diggle is going to find more answers and demand justification for Andy’s death. I worry that the deeper he searches for answers and trying to infiltrate H.I.V.E the more danger he will face.

Things to note this episode:

  • Ray Palmer is alive. [as suspected]
  • Constantine leaves advice to Oliver and Team Arrow about Damien Darhk, “To leave the city.”
  • Oliver continues to exude the theme redemption by working on his relationships with Laurel and Diggle. Showing them that they are on equal playing fields.
