Amazon Prime’s Wheel of Time Television Teaser review

Fantasy fans worldwide are extremely excited for the recently dropped teaser trailer of Amazon Prime’s The Wheel of Time television show. From a fan of the books, here is my review of the teaser trailer!

The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan is a well loved book series that spans fourteen books, one prequel novel and two companions. The epic story and well loved characters has stirred the imagination of people worldwide for years. And now it has finally gotten a television show adaptation. Check out the teaser trailer below:

I remember reading the first book, “Eye of the World”, so many times over the years, and loving every moment of it. I remember being completely immersed in the imaginative world of Robert Jordan, and enthralled with the magic and epic scope of the story. As a fan, I have always wanted an adaptation made for it, but I also knew of the immense challenges that comes with trying to adapt such a massive series. Each book contains so much world building with concepts like reincarnation, prophecy and fate. Mixed this with complicated characters, and a political jockeying of power, and you have a complex story that is not easy to adapt into a television show. Hopefully this show will do this series justice.

Now most people, who are new to this series, will more than likely compare this to Game of Thrones or The Lord of the Rings. It definitely has some of the political aspects as seen in Game of Thrones, but also has way higher stakes and a much more complex magic system. It is closer to Lord of the Rings in scale, but has a much darker aspect to it. In fact, Robert Jordan was heavily influenced by Lord of the Rings as most fantasy writers are. But this series has also become an inspiration to other series in its own right. The Wheel of Time series has been around for decades and has garnered a very devoted fan base from all around the world. Suffice to say, the expectations are very high for this show. It has to be fantastic, and it has to capture as much of the books as possible.

With that being said, what did I think of the trailer? My initial reaction to this trailer is that it’s good. I saw enough of the first book in there to be really excited. I also saw some interesting additions that are not in the books. The music for the trailer is on point and epic, and the magic looked pretty cool. The cinematography is sweeping and beautiful. I did want to see more of the main characters, but I know this is only a teaser trailer. I hope to see more character interactions in the full trailer as well as more of the core story.

Now, with every adaptation, it will be different. That is to be expected, but so long as they keep the spirit and essence of the series intact, I think this may be really good. Since this is going to be a spoiler free review of the teaser trailer, I can’t go too much into detail story and lore wise.

For now though, I am so excited for this. Rosemund Pike gets a huge thumbs up from me as Moiraine. In the small snippets we see her in, she commanded power. Nynaeve, played by Zoe Robins, shows her no nonsense tough love personality as well as a vulnerable side. And, of course, our favorite Warder al’Lan Mandragoran, played by Daniel Henney, is as badass as ever. November 19th can’t come fast enough, and this fan can’t wait!
