AHS: “The Morning After” Thoughts

After the chaotic return of American Horror Story, Michael Langdon reigns terror over Outpost 3. Leaving fans to speculate just how diabolical Michael’s plan is and who is underneath the iconic latex suit. Here are my thoughts about episode 2, “The Morning After.”

Micahel Langdon

We learn this episode that Michael Langdon (Cody Fern) claims to be a representative of The Cooperative and begins to interrogate all those who dwell within Outpost 3. Starting first with a volunteer, Mr. Gallant (Evan Peters). Michael coaxes him to divulge about his rage and hatred for his grandmother, Evie Gallant. We learn that the hatred is built upon his grandmother’s distaste for his sexuality.

Another key piece to Michael Langdon is his supernatural abilities. He has the power to resurrect when the dead snake soap becomes live snakes during dinner with The Purples. There is also the ability to alternate reality. We saw this with Mr. Gallant and the mysterious latex man when the two hook up.

Then later Mr. Gallant follows the latex man whom he believes to be Michael back into a room. In a rage for being turned in by his Grandmother for breaking Ms. Venable’s rules and feeling toyed by Michael sexually.  Mr. Gallant stabs him the Rubber Man, but when back, in reality, he sits atop his grandmother’s lifeless.

Rubber Man

The most mysterious part of the entire episode was the Rubber Man (the staple of Murder House). Fans are speculating that someone from within Murder House has suited up again in the form of Tate Langdon. Which would be twisted as Mr. Gallant and Tate Langdon are portrayed by the same actor. However, the Rubber Man can be an altered reality created by Michael Langdon himself. Also, could Michael’s strange fixation on Mr. Gallant be derived by the striking resemblance of his father? Only time will tell.

Notable Moments

  • Towards the end of the episode Outpost 3 has a new tune. Hearing the vocals of Fleetwood Mac’s song, ‘Gold Dust Woman’ is a clear tease to Coven fans of witchy things to come.
  • After Ms. Mead (Kathy Bates) is shot by Timothy Campbell who tries to spare his own life after being found copulating with Emily. Ms. Mead goes to examine the wound and we see there is no blood but rather something more artificial about her. Could she be an extension of an old character, Madame Delphine LaLaurie place atop an artificial body?
  • Apocalypse represents ‘Lust’ in the nine circles of hell. Seen when Mr. Gallant starts to masturbate about Michael Langdon and we see the Anti-Christ (Michael Langdon) in a bloody pentagram surrounded by snakes.
