2020 Netflix Holiday Movies ‘Naughty and Nice’ List

The Holidays are upon us and while 2020 has been a grim year. Some holiday movies are bringing us some cheer. So grab your hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, a blanket, and catch which 2020 Netflix Holiday movies made it on my ‘Naughty and Nice’ list.

Holidate (Naugthy)

Everyone loves a fun romantic comedy, from the cheesy lines, over the top confessions of love, and cheering on the leads. ‘Holidate’, however, tosses all the clichés out the window in a cringy way, causing one to question why they wasted an hour and forty-three minutes of their life.

Emma Roberts stars as Sloane, a single woman that hates the holidays due to her family constantly prying into her dating life. Her Aunt Susan (portrayed by Kristin Chenoweth) offers a solution to her holiday blues, by having a ‘Holidate’ for each and every holiday. During a less than memorable meet-up of our main lead, Sloane falls into a ‘Holidate’ agreement with Jackson (portrayed by Luke Bracey), with the hanging clause to the agreement is that he finds Sloane, “unattractive” (unbelievable I know).

The romantic-comedy had all the ingredients to become a Holiday staple, but the characters were cringy, unlikeable, and boring. ‘Holidate’ is bad in all the wrong ways and leaves no joy for the viewer.

Dash & Lilly (Nice)

Looking for a whirlwind holiday romance, with scavenger hunts, holiday cheer, and a well-rounded cast? Then look no further, ‘Dash & Lilly’ an adaptation of Rachel Cohn and David Levithan’s book series brings all the holiday cheer.

Where viewers find their inner child as they join Dash and Lilly on a scavenger hunt throughout New York City to find one another. Leading to some perfectly cheesy moments of fluff, that will have you routing for Dash (portrayed by Austin Abrams) and Lilly (portrayed by Midori Francis) on their journey to find one another. With two more books in the series, ‘Twelve Days of Dash & Lilly’ and ‘Mind the Gap, Dash & Lilly,’ fans and myself can rejoice!

The Princess Switch: Switched Again (Naughty)

Just by reading the title alone, this was the one sequel no one asked for. The Princess Switch’s attempted to be a Hallmark- Holiday treats felt more like a Holiday-trick. I found myself yawning at the predictable storyline and triple feature of Vanessa Hudgens as Stacy, Margret, and Fiona (how does no one talk about doppelgangers in the royal family?).

Even the surprise cameo of another Netflix classic holiday franchise, ‘A Christmas Prince’ favorites, Prince Richard, Princess Amber, and baby Elleri could not save this trainwreck of a switch-up to the holidays.

The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two (Nice)

Sometimes sequels get it wrong, but ‘The Christmas Chronicles: Part Two’ gets it right for the family. Remenestant of the ‘Santa Claus’ movie franchise, ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ brings the “spirit of Christmas’ back to 2020. Kurt Russell reprises his role as Santa Claus, along with his wife, Goldie Hawn as Mrs. Claus, and all your favorites are back with some fresh new faces. To take on a Christmas gremlin that plans to steal the holiday cheer for themself.
