The Women Of Game of Thrones

I feel like this season is going to really show off some serious “girl power”. Game of Thrones always had a niche for writing very strong female characters, but I have a feeling we are going to see a lot more this season just based on my observations of the season thus far.

Let’s take a look at the mysterious Red Women, Melisandre.  We all saw that once she took off her necklace she became an old women. Does this mean she is immortal with the necklace? Or does it simply hide the fact that she is an old women? How long has she been around exactly? I am curious to find out more about these “Red Women” as we have met another in Meereen with Tyrion. How many are there? Also we have seen her powers before as she gave birth to a Stannis demon, but nothing really more than that, until she resurrected Jon Snow. Does her power come at a cost? Lastly, I want to note what the red women in Meereen said to Tyrion: they worship the god of fire and Daenerys is immune to fire…

I have to say I am happy with Sansa this season.  She was never a favorite of mine until recently. She is finally standing up for herself and her family. We are really seeing her blossom into a strong women just like her mother. I think with Brienne by her side and now that she and Jon have finally gotten together, they are going to make one hell of a team. They are going to start by gaining control of those houses who are still loyal to the Stark name.

Arya is on quite the mission as well, becoming a faceless girl. Blind, beaten, and trained to become no one, she finally gets her eyes back to take down an actress called Lady Crane. She is supposed to poison the women, but can’t go through with it because Arya still has a conscience. I can’t wait to see what will happen next for her.

Yara Greyjoy should be the Queen of the Iron Islands after her father was murdered by her loser uncle Euron Greyjoy. Euron challenges her claim and wins, even though she had a large backing, largely because she is a woman and he is a man. While he was being crowned king of the Iron Islands, Yara, Theon and a large group of supporters steal the fleet of ships and take off, leaving behind one pissed off Uncle.

Daenerys was captured by Dothraki and was basically on the trail to see if she would live out her days with all the wives of the dead Khals, or be given to all the disgusting Dothraki men as punishment. I was elated when she locked the Khals in their hut where they were deciding her fate, and she set them all on fire by knocking down all the blazers in the room. The building burnt to the ground and our favorite khalessi stood in the doorway amongst the flames and all the Dothraki bowed to her. Now she leads them to Meereen and is set on getting to Westeros to take what is hers. (Similar  to what they say on the iron islands…hmm)

My noteables are definitely the Sand Snake women who now have taken over Dorne. I’m interested to see their next move. Lastly, Margaery Tyrell, before she was brainwashed by the High Sparrow, got to have a conversation with her brother where she tells him that he needs to be strong. So is the brain washed Margaery all a sham? Is she playing the High Sparrow? I guess we will just have to wait and find out!

Lots of Female focus this season! Let’s see where it will lead in the episodes to come!
