Shadowhunters: 2×19 “Hail and Farewell” Thoughts

Shadowhunters: 2×19 “Hail and Farewell” Thoughts

We are on the eve of the Season 2 finale, Shadowhunters and Downworlders part ways. Magnus and Alec try to play nice after their crushing breakup. Here are my thoughts from episode 19, “Hail and Farewell.”

The Divide

The Seelie Queen continues to play her tricks as she gathers the downworlders to join her cause to break the accords against The Clave. The Seelie Queen believes that the downworlders fate will rest easier in her hands. She has little to no faith in The Clave to bring down Valentine and Jonathan.

Simon being the true “Clary” pleasing friend that he is, seeks out The Seelie Queen to discuss the disagreement between downworlders and shadowhunters. The adorable vampire quickly learns that The Seelie Queen does not want to negotiate with shadowhunters, that she simply wants war.

There is something off about this Seelie Queen, that makes me as a viewer turned off from her character. I find her character to be bland and boring. Also the fact that she wants the downworlders to break the accords as her ultimate play for war was predictable. Even more predictable was her newly formed alliance with Valentine. Let’s just say she is one fairy I can’t believe in.

The Hunt

Watch out Jonathan, your humanity is showing! While Jonathan was awaiting word about The Mortal Mirror, he spots a father and a son playing at the park. Despite being infused with demon blood, there is a part of him that yearns for those basic mundane relationships. Something that will be his downfall if he’s not careful.

Clary with her quick witted ideas (she has been on a roll), discovers that she can track Valentine and Jonathan through The Morgenstern bloodline and a shared connection to Jace. Jonathan grows worried as he has been traced by his sister. There was a quick fleeting moment where Jonathan questions his father’s love and declares himself as dead weight to him. Jonathan has a lot of daddy issues and being in this predicament leaves him uncertain if he should trust the father that created him in such darkness.

I guess we will just have to see if Valentine keeps his word to his son about coming back for him. Even after Jonathan was stabbed (literally) in the back by Jace during a showdown. Only to be tossed in the river bellow. But I get this is not the last well will see of this demon boy! Jonathan’s reign of terror is about to kick off and I am excited to see the spark to his darkness in the finale!

Other Thoughts:

  • Clace had a very heated hug that made me want to push them into a private room to work that hug through. The scene was intense for the characters and for viewers it felt more of a “yeah we get it” feeling. We know these two will get together, so stop the slow roll and develop their relationship more.
  • Maia and Simon final DTR (determine the relationship) that has been defined from the past few episodes.
  • Magnus is not over Alec as he still holds onto momentos from their relationship. Can I just say that photobooth photo was precious!
