Shadowhunters: 2×07 “How Are Thou Fallen?”

Looks like love is in the air for some while others struggle with their own personal demons. Here are our highlights from episode 7, “How Are Thou Fallen?”

Clary Fray

Clary discovers that she has an angelic connection that will play a vital role in defeating Valentine. She learns of this ability after sharing with the paining cries of a captured Angel with Cleophas. The fallen Iron Sister pledges her alliance and helps bring Clary, Luke and Jace to Valentine. Jace and Clary team up to take down members of Valentine’s army to free the Angel while a distracted Valentine hashes things out with some distracting words from Cleophas.

The Angel is freed, but before he leaves he shows Jace and Clary the Mortal Sword through a vision. Why did the Angel share this vision with them?  As seen in the vision the Soul Sword can cause death. Could this be a warning to Jace or Clary or a premonition of what is to come with Valentine possessing the Soul Sword. We have a feeling nothing good will come with his new found power.

Malec

Alec and Magnus are turning up the heat giving fans of the book series and show crazy feels. Sure the two have had a slow rolling build and constant interruptions of Shadowhunter business. However, the two are able to find time for each other, and there is even a surprise gift from Alec to Magnus. The gesture was not overlooked as Magnus confides in Maia that in his 400 years no one ever given him a gift.

Magnus quickly realizes just how special Alec is to him. The overall theme between the two is the idea of vulnerability and fear. Even though the two have only been on two dates, the two already pick up on emotional cues. Alec understands Magnus’s fear to love someone again. While Magnus knows Alec has never been in a relationship and lacks the experience and physicality that comes with dating someone.

After a little pep talk from his sister Izzy, Alec makes his way back to Magnus’s loft. He tells the Warlock that he is ready to take the next step, and feels like the timing is right for them to get closer.

Isabelle Lightwood

Isabelle is addicted to vampire venom no thanks to Aldertree’s trickery. She finds herself searching for her fix leading her to an unexpected run in with Magnus at Alto Bar. The Warlock is no fool, and he knows Isabelle is lying to him, but why? We get the feeling that Magnus holding back his encounter with Isabelle from Alec could case a rift in their relationship.

Seeing that Isabelle is going down this dark path, it’s only a matter of time until she gets herself into trouble. Could her addiction cause her to come closer to death or bring about damaging consequences for the Lightwood family? The danger becomes real as we see Isabelle circled by not so friendly vampires that could be the ring leaders in the Vampire Venom business.

Other Notable Moments

  • Can we talk about how cute Maia and Simon are? We are hoping these two will be able to find their way back to that first date. Perhaps after Simon shakes off his boyish crush on Clary. Also, we loved the salty scenes between Maia and Jace. There’s something endearing about someone’s blunt nature and saying just what everyone else is too afraid to say.
