Tara Chambler

Tara is on the road with Heath following the killing of Saviors. Out of fuel and food, Heath and Tara go on foot to look for supplies. They come across a giant sand pile which created a barricade on a bridge. Tara spots a backpack protruding from the pile of sand and proceeds to pull on the backpack while Heath discovers empty bullet shells hidden amongst the sand. He calls out  for Tara to stop, but is too late as the sand pile collapses before them, along with a hoard of sand walkers.

Being over powered by the sand walkers, Tara and Heath are split up by the hoard. They learn later in the episode that the sand pile was in fact a trap made by Oceanside. Oceanside is a community of women that kill outsiders in order to keep their people safe from others. The bridge that Heath and Tara discovered was referred to as “The Bridge of Death,” to keep outsiders away from discovering Oceanside.

When Tara washes up on shore, she is saved and tended to by an Oceansider, Cindy. Cindy is the daughter of Oceanside’s leader, Netanya, an older woman that will do anything to keep Oceanside safe. They developed a bell and fog system to ward off walkers from their community as well as a clicking signal to bring the alarm that intruders have set foot in their community. This leads to the capture of one peeping Tara.

Netanya invites Tara in for dinner, showing her kindness and compassion in hopes to gain her trust. Tara lies to Netanya that she is from Atlanta and works on a ‘larder’ ship. She is ultimately caught in a lie by selecting the wrong terminology that would be used on a ship. Seeing past the lies, Netanya offers Tara the opportunity to become an Oceansider seeing that Tara is a fighter. Having her join the community would be an asset for them. However, she declines and is tricked by Netanya that she will have safe passage home and a scout to join her. They attempt to kill Tara in the woods, but she is rescued again by Cindy.

Thanks to Cindy Tara is able to make it back to “The Bridge of Death” and relives the moments before she was separated from Heath. Heath was last seen fighting off sand walkers after he saved her life. Tara tries to help Heath, but is overcome herself, falling off the bridge along with some sand walkers. She discovers Heath’s glasses and keycard with the letters “PPP” written on it next to fresh tire tracks. So who has Heath?

After Cindy is captured and taken back to Oceanside, Tara returns back to Alexandria where she receives the news about the deaths of Denise, Glenn and Abraham. It is a chilling reminder about the story the Oceansider member told in the woods about Negan killing all the men and boys over 10 years old at Oceanside.
