Teen Wolf Tuesday: Fandom Highlight with Avery

TWT
Moonday may be gone, but Teen Wolf Tuesdays are here to stay [well until further notice]. We are doing our very first highlight here at BGeekyblog with the very lovely, Avery. Avery had an amazing opportunity to visit the Teen Wolf set, spend one on one time with Holland Roden [portrays Lydia Martin], and quality time with Ravi Patel of the critically acclaimed documentary “Meet the Patels”.  Here is our exclusive interview with Avery on her experience.
1. What went into preparing for your visit to meet Holland Roden and Teen Wolf?
A lot of time spent on wardrobe and make-up! I’m only half-way joking. Holland has been a huge inspiration to me since I started watching Teen Wolf, and obviously I love the show as well (it’s my favorite!) – so, being the neurotic person that I am, there was a lot of obsessing over little details. I focused a lot of my energy on making sure I had the perfect presents for Holland (I was originally supposed to meet her much closer to her birthday), and a cute outfit to wear for both days (–they said to dress ‘dressy casual’ aka my worst nightmare). At the end of the day, though, my time with Holland and on set was completely laid-back and problem-free. I put in a lot of time, but it was completely unnecessary! Everyone was so chill. (But Holland DID love my gift, so it definitely wasn’t a waste.)

2. What part of the set visit did you enjoy the most?

My favorite part of the official set visit was probably the trip to wardrobe! I’ll talk about that a little later, though. For now, I’ll say that I have a few favorite parts that I can share! First of all, the part that really made the visit for me — being the crazy dog-lady that I am — is that Holland brought Fievel! She wasn’t shooting the day we visited, but she came anyway to walk my friend and I around and tell us a little about each set. It really meant a lot that she would come into work on a day that she didn’t have to. Secondly, my friend and I had a pretty funny encounter with Khylin Rhambo before the official set visit started. We were waiting outside of the set for Holland to arrive, and when we turned around — suddenly he was just there, walking right next to us! We both weren’t expecting to see anyone (we had just shown up) and so we both – at the same time – inhaled really sharply as he walked by us, refused to breathe until he passed, and he gave us the strangest look. Anyone who knows me knows that I love Khylin, so having that weird little moment happen with him was pretty funny to me. Another fun fact I learned that I really enjoyed was that some of the set dressing for the Sheriff’s station was given to Teen Wolf by my other favorite show, Dexter! I noticed a plaque on the wall commemorating Maria LaGuerta – a main character in the Dexter series – on the wall, and asked about it. I love seeing those little crossovers in my favorite franchises! Lastly, at the end of the tour, we got to watch the opening scene of 5×11! I obviously can’t say anything that happened, but it was really, really good and watching it with Holland (it was the first time she’d seen it, too!) made it all that much better. (And obviously seeing Roscoe was a huge plus!)

3. The set visit was a perk for supporting a documentary called  ‘Meet the Patels’. What were your thoughts about the film and being a contributing factor?

Getting to be a part of helping put Meet the Patels in theaters was such an amazing experience. Anyone who’s seen the film knows just how touching, heart-warming, and funny it is, and I’m so glad that I played a (small!) role in making that documentary available to more people in more places. In addition to being an incredible film, from my experiences with them, Ravi and Mahaley (Patel) are so deserving of the success the film has attained. They’re such gracious and humble people who have gone so far over anything I ever expected from donating to the kickstarter. Fox recently announced they would be doing a scripted version of the film, and I couldn’t be happier for Ravi and Geeta! This is a story that speaks to so many people, and I’m ecstatic that it’s getting all of these opportunities and platforms to inspire nation-wide.

4. Knowing your love of Teen Wolf Fashion, how was the visit to the wardrobe closet?

The wardrobe closet was undoubtedly my favorite part of the set visit! Our first stop on the tour was a visit to the wardrobe trailer. The trailer is where they house current fashion for the main characters in recent or upcoming episodes, and where they keep the majority of the clothing for extras. We got to see how wardrobe is tagged by episode and scene (it’s an extensive chronicling process!) and we even got to see some of wardrobe’s BTS pictures of the cast (continuity shots, but everyone was doing cute poses in them!) After a few more stops, we got to visit the absolutely (is this nerdy to say?) breathtaking wardrobe room! We met the team and were given their official ‘spiel’ for the tour, which included: Haley Webb’s Darach outfit, one of the Oni suits, a beautiful long yellow dress that was supposed to be worn for Malia’s intro scene but was cut, and some fun facts about Allison’s G-Star jacket for her death scene (there were only 12 made – wardrobe had to buy new fabric and remake the jacket entirely for the death scene, so it’s actually a custom-piece!) We also got to see Lydia’s Formal dress (both the regular and the bite versions) and they had Lydia’s Forever 21 season 3 dress and Collective Concepts dress (paired with the J. Crew green jacket – which Daniel says is his favorite piece on Lydia and Holland).

5.  If you pick one word to describe your experience, what would it be?

Unreal. Every single person I met on set was so kind and excited to share their knowledge of Teen Wolf with us. Everyone on the sets and in the office had such a passion for the show, and knowing that the love we have for our favorite series is completely echoed by the people creating it was the best thing that I could’ve learned while on set.
