It may have come as a shocker for some that The Shannara Chronicles was renewed for a second season, as some deemed the series as a “Game of Throne” wannabe. However we are not surprised by the renewal of the series and are excited about the news of a Season 2, and here is why: 

Sure MTV has been known by generations to be “Music Television,” the original channel were viewers watched music videos and reality television. Over the past few years we have seen MTV shift into taking on television series. After their first big hit show Teen Wolf, MTV was looking to explore other genres to compete with other major networks, like the CW and Freeform.  MTV, as a network alone, is not blessed with the financial back up like other major networks for the production of their series.

To compare The Shannara Chronicles to one of the most expensive productions in the buisness, Game of Thrones, is an unfair comparison to say the least. Despite the lack of a blockbuster budget, MTV did an amazing job with The Shannara Chronicles: from transporting us to fantasy lands by stunning visual effects, to special effects makeup to bring out the devilious villain, The Dagda Mor, to the costumes that brought the characters to life and, lastly, the talented cast.

If one is looking to compare this series to more wide productions you might find yourselves disappointed to say the least.  The Shannara Chronicles stayed true to the book series, unlike other networks takes on the book adaptions. The Shannara Chronicles was a huge risk to take on by MTV, and they prove to have come on top with another hit series on their hands.  We are looking forward to what Season 2 will bring for the series and eager to hear about more casting choices for some new faces we are hoping to be introduced.
