Cosplay Friday Highlight:

Here at Bgeekyblog we have grown to appreciate the community of cosplay. There is something special about the cosplaying community that deserves more recognition for their craft. Countless hours and hard work go into the details of bringing to life beloved characters. Your gender, physical appearance or age should never hinder you from your passion to cosplay. Cosplay is for everyone.  With that ideal, we are excited to expand out highlights to the cosplay community.  We are pleased to highlight Inspector Lemon Cosplay!

1.) What sparked your interest in cosplay?

The performance aspect of cosplay is what really sparked my interest. I’ve always loved acting. And the opportunity to take a character that inspires me and bring it to life is really exciting. Honestly, the moment you finally get to put on a completed cosplay is so gratifying. It’s just like, “Woah, I actually did this! Hell yeah!”  And then celebratory Icees must be obtained.

2.) What has been your favorite character to cosplay?

I love cosplaying Prompto Argentum from Final Fantasy XV. He’s such an adorable dork. And I always get to take a bunch of fun selfies with loads of different people at cons, particularly Cindys, and I just love it. I get to make so many new friends and I think that’s probably one of my favorite things about cosplay.

3.) What would be your dream cosplay?

You know, two months ago, had you asked me this I would’ve have started out by saying, “One day I plan to do this”. But a couple of months back I was talking to a good friend of mine, just casual conversation in the car, and I asked her this exact question. And she said, “I don’t have one. If I want to make it I just do it.”  And I loved that. Like, why didn’t I ever think of that? So, I guess my dream cosplay would be whatever cosplay I happen to be presently working on. Currently, I’m working on two new cosplays from Final Fantasy.

4.) What has been the most difficult cosplay for you and why?

Prince Noctis from Final Fantasy XV was hands down the most difficult cosplay for me to date. Simply because of the prop, it was my first time making a sword completely from scratch. I made Noctis’s Engine Blade and it took about two months. It was super intricate and prior to making his sword I’d only made one prop, for my Naruto cosplay at Holiday Matsuri last December.  And there were a lot of interesting mistakes I made and definitely a lot of room for improvement. But for my first serious prop I’m very pleased with the result. I worked with a lot of different materials and worked with LEDs for the first time as well.

5.) If you could reenact any scene in cosplay from any fandom, what would it be?

There is so many, but I’ll just go with a moment from my favorite anime, so it would be really awesome to reenact the moment Kagome sees Inuyasha pinned to the sacred tree for the first time. That still moment after falling through the well and ending up in the feudal era, in episode one of Inuyasha was so beautiful. Now I just need a Kagome!

6.) You cosplay a lot of different fandoms.  Which character (if any) would you say you relate to the most and why?

I would say either Prompto from FFXV or Lance from Voltron. They’re incredibly relatable characters. Both of them struggle with insecurities and often play them off with a joke and as a smile. I can really relate to these moments with these characters. That being said, they’re also silly and sometimes awkward which is how I see myself within my own group of friends.

7.) If you could hang out with any character from any fandom, which character would you like to hang out with and why?

Sekizan Takuya from All Out! without a doubt! He’s so adorable and I would get a kick out of flirting with him, watching him get all blushu, and taking him on impromptu dates to the local bakery. I just love his character so much!

8.) You’ve been to a few conventions in cosplay.  What has been your most memorable convention moment?

I was cosplaying Kakashi from Naruto a couple years ago and I was just moseying around the con. When all of a sudden, I hear two little kids running up behind me and yelling, “Kakashi Sensei, Kakashi Sensei!” I turned around and I’m like, “Yo.” and they were so cute, it was a brother and a sister, they couldn’t have been more than seven or eight years old. One was holding their dad’s cellphone, who was jogging up behind them, and she’s like, “Kakashi Sensei, can I take a picture with you?” so we took the picture and then went our separate ways. Two hours later, I was deciding between original and melon Ramune at a stand in the vendor’s hall, when I hear two sets of feet barreling up behind me yelling, “Kakashi Sensei! Kakashi Sensei!” Apparently, their dad had taken a selfie of himself instead of a picture of us earlier, so they’d spent the last two hours searching for me again. It was the best feeling, I wanted to cry, I don’t think I’ve ever received a higher compliment. So this time when I took the picture with them I kneeled behind them and got to do the classic Kakashi sensei photo with them. I’m so sad I don’t have a copy of that photo.

9.) What advice would you give to people who are just starting out or getting back into cosplay?

Honestly, pick out a cosplay, make it, and go to a con and have fun. Because cosplay is about having fun with your friends. I’m fairly new to cosplay. I’ve only been doing it for two years. And consistently doing it since December of last year. But what I’ve learned so far is no matter how much I improve or learn – there is always something else to learn. So just have fun. Make some kick ass memories, and don’t forget to take pictures!

10.) If you could create any character of your choice who would they be and what genre would they fit into?

I’d probably create a female protagonist, normal in origin, but bestowed with fated importance or power. She would definitely travel through time and be destined to save the world. It would be an adventure/drama genre. Think Inuyasha meets Fushiji Yuji.
